Five Ways to Make Sure Your Car is Prepared for the Storm

As Hurricane Irma approaches Florida, all eyes are on the Keys and Miami area for a major, destructive impact. In the Asheville and Greenville areas, we are also watching for tropical rain and wind to potentially cause damage as the weakening storm moves north. At The DentFX, we want to make sure you and your vehicle are prepared for the storm.

1) Make Arrangements to Stay Home

If it is at all possible, try to stay off the road. Most tropical storm and hurricane deaths and injuries occur when drivers attempt to pass through flooded roadways. Accidents are much more likely to occur in adverse weather conditions. If it becomes clear that the storm will bring winds gusts and heavy rain to the Asheville area, avoid driving if you can.

2) Identify Hazards Where You Park

Make sure you pay close attention to potential hazards near your vehicle. Items that may damage your car during the storm include:

  • Loose or dead limbs
  • Dead or leaning trees
  • Loose lawn and patio furniture
  • Trash cans and recycling bins
  • Yard decorations
  • Floodwaters

3) Pack Your Emergency Preparedness Kit

If you do indeed have to drive during the storm, make sure your vehicle is prepared with necessary supplies in case you are delayed or stuck on the road. Your emergency preparedness kit should include:

  • Some food and water
  • First aid kit
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Cell phone charger and extra battery
  • Spare tire and tire changing tools
  • Light jacket or blanket

4) Make Sure Your Vehicle is Well-Maintained

Before you hit the road during any adverse weather conditions, make sure your car is well-maintained. Maintenance includes:

  • Up-to-date oil change
  • Plenty of tire tread depth
  • Tire rotation and balance
  • Proper wheel alignment
  • Proper amount of transmission and brake fluid
  • Brake pads and rotors
  • Any other necessary repairs

5) Be Prepared to Replace Dents and Dings

The DentFX provides the Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC areas with mobile dent and ding repair. Damage from flying debris can often easily be repaired with our paintless dent and ding removal system. We work with your insurance company and provide free, same day estimates.
